Date Night at Hudson

I just realized that in all my excitement I totally left out the part about the fabulous date in my last post. So much for the blog title πŸ˜›

Anyway in addition to experiencing a historic moment last week I had fantastic, wonderful date night night.

We took the 7 train to Hudson and walked over to the high line. It was my first time there and the weather was perfect for a long walk along the greenway.

I loved it, especially all the creative things people do here. There was a corner with lots of colors and cardboard squares and you could draw anything you like there. Awesome!

Then there were these Lego bricks that people were building a cityscape with. Some creativity huh?

After getting off the Highline we walked along Hudson River to Grand Banks, a boat on the river that is also an oyster bar. Huh!

People come there to see the sun set on the river and believe me it is one of the prettiest, most romantic date spot in New York. The husband and I drank some wine, had a few oysters and talked for hours on that boat. A loverly day, if there ever was one.

This was the gorgeous view from the boat.

Witnessing a historic moment and a fabulous date night!

It’s not every day that you get a chance to be a part of an historic event, so when the 7 train made its maiden journey to Hudson, we just hopped on. 😊 It was such an awesome feeling to see a brand new subway station, it was so clean and modern. Everyone looked so happy. People were laughing clicking pictures. Oh! What a wonderful day. πŸ˜€

Not that kind of girl

“I’ve never wanted to be with women so much as I wanted to be them: there are women whose career arc excites me, whose ease of expression is impressive, whose mastery of party banter has me simultaneously hostile and rapt. I’m not jealous in traditional ways – of boyfriends or babies or bank accounts – but I do covet other women’s styles of being.”

Exactly!

Not That Kind Of Girl

I finally got my hands on the book! Yeai! πŸ˜€

I saw a recommendation about the book on Goodreads and wanted to read it ever since. It seemed like the book every young woman should read, you know those 20 for your 20s books.

I’d seen the show ‘Girls’ before and honestly I didn’t think much of it. It was nice, quirky and quite average.

I guess you have to be a big fan of Lena Dunham to really love the book, which sadly I’m not.

The book itself is a breezy read with quirky humor( if you’re into that kind of thing) and intimate details of her life. I would be lying if I said I’m not finding it th least bit enjoyable, but it is definitely I’d re read or finish in one night. So there you go!

I was super excited about the book but I’m just a tad bit disappointed. But I still have quite a way to go and maybe I’ll really like it by the end of it. Who knows right?

Drawing Fundamentals with Professional Artists

Last week something wonderful happened to me. For the first time in my life, I went ahead and took a formal drawing class for 5 days. It was the happiest 5 days of my life. The joys of learning from real artists is such a treasure, only when you’re in the company of such creative minds do you see where you actually lack.

I thought I drew well, now I thinkΒ I can draw well if I try, but I’m not there yet. My biggest weakness is impatience and negligence to see the big picture. If I can overcome that, I think I can be pretty good. This is what the class did for me, it gave me the confidence to seriously pursue art. I have always wanted to do it but I never took it very seriously or tried to work towards it. Now maybe a good time to change that.

So for the first 3 days I sketched the same bust over and over and over again from various angles, by day 3 I understood why the teacher had us do that. It made my drawings so much better. On the fourth day we had a beautiful model for figure sketching, after I got over the initial awkwardness, I got to learn so much about the intricacies of the human anatomy.

The last day was the hardest of all! We had to do a portrait of another gorgeous model – Chloe.

The 5 days went by in a breeze. I hope to attend some more classes in the future. Just in case you’re wondering, I found the class on CourseHorse. Check these guys out. They have a decent website.

The class I took was – Drawing and Painting Fundamentals, Studio 415, Chelsea, New York.
